Valentine’s Day often comes with a lot of pressure—flowers, fancy dinners, and romantic gestures everywhere you look. But what if this year, instead of feeling left out or pressured, you made it a day dedicated entirely to YOU? Whether you’re single by choice or circumstance, or simply want to embrace self-love, Valentine’s Day can be the perfect opportunity to treat yourself, recharge, and celebrate the most important relationship you’ll ever have—the one with yourself. Even if you’re in a relationship, Valentine’s Day can still be about spending time with you.
This guide is all about turning Valentine’s Day into a joyful, fulfilling, and love-filled experience, even if you’re spending it solo. Let’s dive into some amazing ways to make this day all about self-care, joy, and appreciation for the wonderful person you are.

1. Start the Day with a Self-Love Ritual
How you begin the day sets the tone for everything that follows. Instead of waking up feeling like you’re “missing out,” start with a mindful and loving morning routine:
- Gratitude journaling – Write down three things you love about yourself or your life. Focusing on what’s good immediately puts you in a positive mindset.
- Stretch or do some light yoga – Move your body gently and get the energy flowing.
- Prepare a special breakfast – Treat yourself and make something you truly love, whether it’s pancakes, avocado toast, or a fancy smoothie bowl. Enjoy it mindfully.
- Dress for yourself – Wear something that makes you feel confident, even if you’re staying home. Cute loungewear? A dress you love? Go for it! I love incorporating heart-printed items, or red/pink, into my outfit on valentines day. I recently bought some heart-printed tights which are SO cute!
2. Plan a Solo Date
Who says you need a date to go out and have a good time? Taking yourself on a date can be incredibly empowering and fun. Here are some ideas:
- Café and book date – Take yourself to a cozy café, order your favorite drink, and get lost in a book. This is honestly one of my FAVOURITE things to do.
- Museum or art gallery visit – Wander through an exhibit at your own pace, appreciating creativity and beauty. The good thing about this is that you can go to a place which really interests you, and don’t have to worry about the other person being bored.
- Movie night (in or out) – If there’s a movie you’ve been wanting to see, why not take yourself to the cinema? Or, set up a cozy movie night at home with blankets, popcorn, and fairy lights. I’ve actually never been to the cinema alone, however it’s definitely something I want to try.
- Go for a scenic walk – Whether it’s a nature trail or a beautiful city street, put on a playlist and soak in the surroundings.
- Try a new activity – Ever wanted to take a pottery class, do a painting session, or try a new workout? Today’s the day!
3. Pamper Yourself
Treat yourself to a luxurious self-care session. You don’t need a spa when you can create your own at home! This can also be super affordable, too.
- Run a bubble bath with essential oils, candles, and relaxing music. Or, even having a candle-lit shower can be super relaxing.
- Do a DIY facial with a face mask, jade roller, and your favorite skincare products. Use a face mask – the Garnier sheet masks are my absolute faves for an at home facial.
- Give yourself a manicure/pedicure – Choose a fun nail color and take your time!
- Try aromatherapy – Scents like lavender, rose, and vanilla can create a relaxing atmosphere.
- Take a nap or rest without guilt – Sometimes the best self-care is simply allowing yourself to rest.
4. Indulge in Something Special
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to indulge in something that brings you joy. This could be:
- Your favorite meal – Whether you order in from your favorite restaurant or cook something delicious, enjoy every bite.
- Dessert (guilt-free!) – Chocolate-covered strawberries? A rich cake? Ice cream straight from the tub? Go for it! You deserve ALL the treats.
- A little luxury – Buy yourself something nice—a book, perfume, cozy blanket, or even flowers for your own table. Just treat yourself – don’t wait for someone else to buy you the flowers, do it for yourself.
5. Connect with Loved Ones
Self-love doesn’t mean isolation. If you’re craving connection, reach out to friends or family:
- Have a virtual or in-person hangout – Plan a “Galentine’s” video call with friends or meet up for coffee. There are so many ideas online at the moment for Galentine’s Nights – if you want to do something like this, I am sure your friends would love it if you were to set it up.
- Write heartfelt messages – Send thoughtful texts or letters to people you love.
- Call someone special – A chat with your best friend, sibling, or parent can be just as heartwarming as any romantic date.
6. Do Something Creative
Creative activities can be incredibly fulfilling and therapeutic. Try:
- Journaling – Reflect on your personal growth, dreams, or write a love letter to yourself. There’s a concept in Compassion-Focussed Therapy (CFT) called compassionate letter writing – this can be a really lovely and empowering thing to do for yourself.
- Painting or drawing – Even if you’re not an artist, playing with colors is fun and freeing. You could get yourself a paint-by-numbers set, or an at home pottery painting kit.
- Dancing like nobody’s watching – Blast your favorite playlist and move your body! I love a solo dance party to get those endorphins flowing.
7. Reflect and Set Intentions
Valentine’s Day can also be a time to reflect on where you are and what you want in life. Consider:
- Setting self-love goals – What are some ways you can be kinder to yourself daily? Can you try and set one activity a week that you do for yourself? Whether this is an at home spa night, or a dinner-date with yourself, regularly taking time to show yourself love is so important.
- Manifesting love in all forms – Romantic love is only one type; celebrate love in friendships, family, and self-growth.
- Creating a vision board – Gather images and words that represent what you want for your future.
8. End the Day with Comfort and Gratitude
Before bed, take a moment to unwind and reflect on the day:
- Watch a cozy show or read a book – Choose something that makes you feel happy.
- Have a warm drink – Herbal tea or hot chocolate for a soothing end to the night. Peppermint tea is my favourite to help me have a deep sleep.
- List three things you loved about today – Even small joys matter! What are 3 things you’re grateful for from today?
- Go to bed early – There’s something so luxurious about getting a full night’s rest.
Final Thoughts
Spending Valentine’s Day alone doesn’t mean missing out—it means embracing the opportunity to pour love into yourself. Whether you spend the day pampering yourself, indulging in your favorite things, or simply enjoying peace and quiet, the most important thing is that you feel valued and appreciated—by YOU. Honestly, this is one of my favourite ways to spend, not only Valentine’s Day, but anyday. I try and have one solo date like this a month, as it just makes me feel good. You deserve to show yourself love everyday of the year, not just on Valentine’s Day! After all, self-love is the foundation for all other love. And the more you cherish yourself, the more joy, confidence, and fulfillment you’ll bring into every aspect of your life.
So this Valentine’s Day, celebrate YOU. You deserve it! ❤️
